About the Youth Assemblies

The Youth Assemblies are a group of locally based and radically democratic collectives. We use Debate, political participation and collective decision making to answer and provide solutions to those issues that affect us directly as Catalans, youth, women, immigrants, students or workers.

We take part in the ecological struggle in defense of the territory; we fight for decent housing and look to eradicate sexism and xenophobia from our streets; we confront Spanish and French centralization and the marginalisation of the Catalan language everywhere in the country. All these are only some of the central points that guide our struggle.

The Youth Assemblies create youth leisure alternatives, promote alternative thought and combatively work in the different villages, towns and cities within the Catalan Countries. There are now around forty assemblies throughout all the Catalan territory who with their struggle and work become CAJEI’s motor.

About CAJEI

The Youth Left-wing Pro-Independence Assemblies Coordinator was born in 2002 with the purpose of coordinating the different Youth Assemblies that then existed. It was necessary to create a new structure that allowed the union of all the experiences of the different left-wing pro-independence youth fights. The different Assemblies started working together on the issues that affect the Catalan youth. Nowadays all the Assemblies are located in Catalonia and Valencia even though our organizational structure responds to the political reality that the Catalan Countries have historically become.

The Youth Assemblies have the objective of building a strong and consolidated youth movement. We encourage the building of youth spaces for debate, auto-organization and anti-establishment. For all this reasons we commit ourselves to work towards a democratic and revolutionary structure of power that includes the Catalan Youth’s demands.
